The Ruidoso area provides anglers with a variety of fishing opportunities. Fishing licenses for the day the week or annual and any gear you will need can be purchased at Western Auto 400 Mechem Dr. or Wal-Mart.
The Rio Ruidoso is stocked, but the occasional natural brook trout will find its way onto your line. There are also rumors of large browns. But don’t take out word for it, grab your tackle and go try it. HINT: Look for pools.
The Bonito Lake area is located off of Hwy 37 just minutes from the Village and it boasts great trout fishing from shore. This is a very cool place to be even if you don’t fish, but even better if you do. Take the family along for the day.
Grindstone Reservoir is located on Resort Dr. which is only minutes from your cabin. The fishing is sometimes good and great fun for the kids. It is stocked and with a permit from the Parks and Recreation office you can take a small non-motorized boat out.
Eagle Lakes is located just off of Ski Run road. This is operated by The Mescalero Apache Tribe and is only open in the summer. There is a fee, which you pay at the gate, but the fishing can be pretty good.
Seeping Springs Trout Lake is fun for the kids. This private fishing hole pretty much guarantees your kids will catch their limit. No license required here. Open in the spring/summer months (March – Sept) it is found on Hwy 70 east of Ruidoso.
