Snow Activities
Ski Apache is one of the premier ski and snowboarding resorts in the Southwest.  The ski resort offers something for everyone - people of all skill levels are encouraged to come up and enjoy the runs, new tubing hill and great snow conditions.  Sitting atop the peak of Sierra Blanca, Ski Apache offers 55 trails for skiers and snowboarders to explore, with a top elevation of 11,500 feet.  As the southern-most major ski location in the United States, the resort has a dry, arid climate that makes for optimal snow conditions, typically producing more than 15 feet annually.  For a real-time image check out the ski-cam at www.skiapache.com  Info:  575-464-3600, daily ski report:  575-464-1234. 

Winter Park, 500 W. Sleigh Rides

Grindstone Stables - Come and enjoy the Christmas lights of the historic upper canyon!  Take an evening ride in an antique bobsled pulled by a team of beautiful draft horses who will have their sleigh bells ringing.  Meet us in the large parking lot of Martha's Fabrics, which is at the "Traffic Circle" at the west end of Sudderth Drive (aka 101 Vision Drive).  Reservations are recommended!  More Info:  575-257-2241.

JANUARY - Disabled Skier’s Annual Silent Auction

Area volunteerswork hard raising funds for this very worthwhile cause and the big event of the year is the Annual Silent Auction. Always held at the end of January, the auction has been going for years and generates over $20,000 annually. The Silent Auction is a great way to support a great program and your chance to pick up some of the best bargains in town! Significant works of art, ski equipment and apparel, Home décor items … and the best collection of must have odds and ends you’ll ever see! So make sure your Ruidoso January plans include Ski Apache’s Disabled Skier’s Annual Silent Auction!


FEBRUARY - Annual mARTi Gras Celebration!

Each February New Orleans’ French Quarter visits Ruidoso at the Ruidoso Convention Center with the  Ruidoso Regional Council for the Arts’ annual mARTi Gras Celebration … it’s the Ruidoso version of Mardi Gras! Live music by a Dixieland or Cajun themed band plays all night long, a gumbo cook-off contest well supported by our chefs from some great local restaurants plus other wonderful food specialties. Every year, too, offers a special feature. Sometimes you’ll experience a Mardi Gras Costume Contest and other times a Mardi Gras related art event like their most recent art mask contest. Plus a silent auction with incredible bidding items takes place right during the night before your eyes!


MARCH - Mountain Living Home and Garden Show

What a great way to welcome spring’s return … with the Annual Mountain Living Home and Garden Show. Every March more than 200 qualified experts convene at the Ruidoso Convention Center to meet you personally and demonstrate the latest products and designs. Here you’ll find: Handcrafted Furniture, Accessories & Art, Educational Seminars & Workshops, Building and Design, Gardening and Landscaping, Architecture & Remodeling Experts, Professionals in Home Sales & Financing and rhe Latest Tools & Materials. Ruidoso’s Mountain Living Home and Garden Show is a three day event taking place every spring at the Ruidoso Convention Center.


APRIL - High Mesa Artists’ Studio Tour near Ruidoso

Nogal New Mexico in April is nothing short of sublime. Simply put … this is high desert perfection. Eight very talented local artists & crafters open their studios every spring and let you in on for a unique view into their fascinating worlds. The high plains and rolling grassland orchards of Nogal, New Mexico are the perfect setting for the annual event which takes place without fail every April. Meet and Greet the Artists on their home turf do don’t miss this great annual Lincoln County Art Event right outside of Ruidoso! High Mesa Artists’ Studio Tour occurs along New Mexico State HWY 37, between Mile Markers number 4 and number 6.


MAY - Ruidoso’s AspenCash Motorcycle Rally

Nothing matches the excitement of seeing and hearing thousands of well-tuned, metal-flaked, custom-chromed, fat-tired, open exhaust works of rolling art cruising down Main Street in Ruidoso, New Mexico. And during four days every May that is exactly what happens! With a $10,000 poker run, 33,000 square feet of trade show at the Ruidoso Convention Center and some of the best riding country God ever created, you’ll know why this is one of the most popular and respected rallies held in the Southwest. Riders journey from all over the United States renew old friendships and shake off winter’s blues. A single ride can take you up winding switchbacks on Ski Run Road to the high elevation at 9600 feet at the base of Ski Apache Then cruise over to Lincoln, New Mexico, the historic old west town where the Billy the Kid shot his way through history and onto the Silver Screen. Save a little time to visit Smokey Bear’s grave site in the town of Capitan on your return to Ruidoso.


JUNE -  Ruidoso’s Mountain of Blues Festival

Ruidoso Mountain of Blues Incorporated is dedicated to keeping the musical tradition of Live Blues alive and kicking in Ruidoso, New Mexico with one of the Southwest’s most respected and anticipated annual Live Blues Events. National touring artists regularly headline the show backed up by a regular cast of great regional acts. This combination makes for a quality live blues concert experience previously unseen or unheard for that matter high desert town of Ruidoso New Mexico! The Mountain Blues Jam takes place on schedule every June in Ruidoso ... so mark you calendar! Plenty of delicious local food, beverage vendors and great tunes. This event is friendly with kid’s activities available during the event like a fantastic moon bounce and other play areas.


JULY - Art Loop Studio Tour

Art Loop® is the Grandmother of studio tours in Lincoln County, every year getting bigger and better than ever. A jury selects the participating artists, and the tour has attracted many of the top artists in the area. Now in its 14th year, it traditionally takes place the first weekend following July 4th. This year some studios are presenting multiple artists’ work. You’ll find 36 artists featured in 22 locations throughout the county; all private places that radiate the inspiration and passion of these very talented individuals. Among the offerings are fine-art paintings, pottery, fabric art, glass sculpture, turned wood, jewelry, gourd art, hand-knit clothing, ceramic creations, painted silk, and photographic digital prints.


JULY - Ruidoso Art Festival

Ruidoso is home to some world class artists and galleries as well as the now famous summer art festival in held every July for nearly 40 years. The Show is the granddaddy of Art Festivals in the Southwest and features approximately 120 juried artists from a dozen states displaying paintings, drawings, photography, glass, porcelain, metalwork, woodwork, jewelry, batik, pottery, weaving, fabric, leather work and sculpture. Set in the spacious Ruidoso Convention Center every inch is filled with beautiful craftsmanship and unparalleled artistry. These artists travel from all over the U.S. to join with other gifted artisans in showing and selling their pieces and this dynamic really works here. Recognized by the Harris Poll as one of the top Juried Art Shows in the United States, the Annual Ruidoso Arts Festival is a must see Ruidoso event.


AUGUST - Fort Stanton Live!

This annual living history event takes place every August at the best preserved Calvary Fort in the West. This picturesque old cavalry fort on the banks of the Bonita River in the White Mountains of New Mexico is a perfect historical setting. Fort Stanton Live is an annual two-day event that has folks dressed in period costumes reenacting life at the Fort as it was in the 1800’s. Cavalry, infantry and artillery garrisons will perform their drills as blacksmith work their forges. An 1880’s minstrel show will entertain and an old-fashioned gambling hall will be open to give you a real sense of the era. Native Americans will perform their traditional dances and a Chautauqua performance is guaranteed to please. There’s a fashion show with the Friends of Fort Seldon narrating detailed descriptions of the attire. On Sunday at noon a Civil war tactical battle will takes place to end the event with a bang.


SEPTEMBER - All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack

Do you know which is the world’s richest Quarter Horse race? It’s the $2 million All-American Futurity and its home is right in Ruidoso’s sister city, Ruidoso Downs in Southeast New Mexico. Every Day Labor Day, which is always the first Monday in September, this event is the culmination of another exciting reason at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino. This event which debuted in 1959 with a winning filly named “Galobar”, has been growing strong and gaining continuous momentum ever since this inaugural year. 2008 marks the events Silver Anniversary. Ruidoso Downs Racetrack’s first race was run in the summer of 1947. At that time there was no established racing facility so it literally took hours to prepare for this first race, a race in which locals volunteered to judge the finish. In the late 1940’s this track was little more than a coarsely plowed road with a considerable uphill tilt.


SEPTEMBER - Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally in Ruidoso

New Mexico’s premier Motorcycle event celebrates itself every September in the Pine-topped Sacramento Mountains in and around Ruidoso!  Exciting entertainment, five different poker runs and tours with big cash prizes, bike judging, free meals, chances to win a new Harley and lots of old fashioned Ruidoso are this annual event’s hallmarks. The Ruidoso Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally offers up 86,400 square feet of trade show as well featuring leather goods, clothing, accessories, bike gadgets, bikes themselves, trailers, tools and just about anything you’ll need, want and desire for cruising on your bike! Every year too, two featured Rally Concerts take place in cooperation with the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino and the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino.


OCTOBER - Ruidoso Aspenfest Weekend Celebration

Aspenfest occurs the first weekend of October every year in and around Ruidoso. The weekend includes the fantastic Aspenfest parade right through midtown Ruidoso, the Classic Car show at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack, The New Mexico State Chili cook-off and a great Arts and Crafts fair at Schoolhouse Park in Ruidoso. The Aspenfest parade typically includes more than 25 floats, 80 entries and five marching bands from area schools dazzling thousands of spectators who line up and down Sudderth Drive. Every year a new parade theme guides the entrants in decorating and presenting their entries. Great Chili and with live music and cold beer are the hallmarks of the New Mexico State Chili cook-off happening this weekend.  The Classic Car show at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack offers up an incomparable collection of road beauties from the past.


OCTOBER - Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium and Chuck Wagon Cook-off

The finest cowboy poets, artists and musicians descend upon Ruidoso Downs every fall During the second full weekend every October, Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico plays host to the nation's finest cowboy poets, musicians, including the world famous Texas Playboys, chuck wagon cooks, western artists and craftsmen for a incomparable three day event … The Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium. Great competitions and workshops are held as well. The Symposium also features endless demonstrations including horsemanship with Craig Cameron, the real Horse Whisperer, roping and blacksmithing. Vendor booths brim with western arts and crafts and The Symposium has plenty for the kids to do including competition dummy roping, mutton bustin’, stick horse barrel racing, goat roping and a goat-sheep scramble.


NOVEMBER - Ruidoso’s Annual Christmas Jubilee

With over 88 vendors with unique gifts for all ages including handmade items from local craftsmen The Annual Christmas Jubilee remains Ruidoso's Favorite Shopping Experience, offering something for everyone. This annual event takes place at the Ruidoso Convention Center and is the perfect place to do all of your Christmas shopping with just one stop. Crafters offering hundreds of unusual and fascinating handiworks ply their products. Artisans display a variety of work to tickle your fancy and awaken your imagination. Local merchants bring traditional and distinctive gifts items. Be sure to bring the kids, because you-know-who will be there making his list and checking it twice.


DECEMBER - Ruidoso Festival of Lights

The Festival kicks off Thanksgiving Day with the start of a juried lighting competition among businesses and homeowners. Participants illuminate the exterior of their homes and businesses, filling the Ruidoso Valley with a profusion of glittering white light. The juried lighting competition brings out the creativity of Ruidoso citizens and business owners and will provide Ruidoso visitors with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Village’s decorative spirit.  More lighting fun for the whole community continues with Ruidoso’s traditional Christmas in the Park tree featuring holiday music, caroling, food and beverage, and of course, a visit from Santa. The FOL hosts an electric light parade as well with floats packed with festive folks and seasonal decorations. The Village offers a winter wonderland, a sparkling mountain hideaway during The Annual Ruidoso Valley Festival of Lights.
